“What has kept us in business for so long is our ability to change our course when needed, while staying true to our main call, which is chartering and ship agency.”
– Co-founder Jørgen Juhl Poulsen
1974: Chartering and ship agency at the core
Juhl & Ehrhorn was founded in 1974 by Jørgen Juhl Poulsen and L. P. Ehrhorn. From the beginning, our main business activities were worldwide chartering and ship agency.
Late 1970s: Ship management
Gradually, we also became part-owners and ship managers of a fleet of 12 coasters, trading worldwide. The first coaster in our fleet was “Ulla Kit”. We were both involved in the purchase, building and management of the fleet.
Late 1970s and 1980s: Ship delivery
Due to our experience as ship managers, we also took on the responsibility of delivering ships donated by the Danish government to developing countries (such as Bangladesh, Namibia and Mozambique). All in all, well over 50 ships of various kinds were successfully delivered from Denmark to destinations worldwide.
1988: Growth in Nigeria leads to a change in ownership
In the 1980s, we gained the opportunity to start a Nigerian enterprise, which expanded rapidly. Our owners therefore decided to split the business activities, and Jørgen Juhl Poulsen continued the shipping activities as sole owner of Juhl & Ehrhorn.
2004: An era of ship management comes to an end
In response to market changes, we began to downsize our fleet of coasters in the 1990s. In 2004, the last coaster was sold, M.V. Elisabeth Clipper. This enabled us to focus on our core activities – chartering and ship agency.
2012: Branch office opens in Bremen
To expand our activities on the German market, we established a local office in Bremen in 2012 under the management of Allan Juhl Poulsen, son of Jørgen Juhl Poulsen.
2017: Generational shift
As part of a generational shift, founder Jørgen Juhl Poulsen sold the company to Niels Winther Shipping and his son Allan Juhl Poulsen in 2017.
